Glossary entry
舰长 (Jianzhang): Bilibili Live's 'Captain' Rank 舰长
- Literal meaning
- 'captain' — the first rank of a livestream's guard fleet (舰队)
- Where you'll see it
- Bilibili livestreams; the paid guard hierarchy below 提督 (Admiral) and 总督 (Fleet Admiral)
Bilibili livestreams have a navy. Viewers who pay a monthly subscription to a streamer join that streamer's guard fleet (舰队), and the tiers are naval ranks: 舰长 (Captain — the entry tier), 提督 (Admiral), and 总督 (Fleet Admiral — the top). A Captain gets a badge next to their name in that streamer's chat, special danmaku styling, and various per-streamer perks; higher ranks cost more and signal more.
Why it exists, and how it differs from Charging
The guard system is the livestream support mechanism — recurring, badge-bearing, tied to one streamer's room. It is a sibling of, but different from, Bilibili Charging (充电), which supports video creators, and from one-off gifts thrown in chat. When you see a stream chat full of identical badges, that's the fleet: recurring supporters, not bots.
What an international viewer should know
- The rank names are stable platform vocabulary; prices, perks and availability are not — they vary by streamer and region, and the panel shown on the official live page is the source of truth. BiliGuide does not list prices for this reason.
- You do not need a fleet rank to watch or chat. Like 白嫖 everywhere on the platform, watching without paying is normal and accepted.
- For the video-side equivalent, see Charging; for the vocabulary of one-click support, see one-click triple.
